Free Fire India launch status 2026: what is actually confirmed — full timeline
Every month the internet fills up with “Free Fire India is launching on this date” posts — and so far, every one of them has been wrong. This page tracks confirmed facts only, and we update it whenever there is a real development.
The Confirmed Timeline So Far
- Feb 2022: The original Free Fire was banned in India (along with 53 other apps). Free Fire MAX was not banned — and it is what everyone plays today;
- Sept 2023: A “Free Fire India” launch was announced for 5 September, then postponed;
- 2024–2025: Garena worked on data localisation for India and brought esports back, starting with FFMIC 2025 (₹1 crore prize pool);
- 2026 (so far): The “Free Fire India” Play Store page still shows “Coming Soon / Pre-register”. There is no confirmed launch date.
So What Should You Play in India?
Free Fire MAX — it was never banned, it is on the Play Store, and all of Garena’s Indian esports events (FFMIC, FFWC qualifiers) run on it.
How to Avoid Fake News
- Trust only Garena’s official channels (ff.garena.com and official social handles);
- Never open unofficial “FF India APK download” links — they are fake clones and often malware;
- Any website giving a definite date without an official source is wrong.
